Expression is everything, and healthy hair is its perfect canvas. So we're tapping real people to uncover the routines liberating their next-level hair health. We chatted with Esraa Elzin, content creator and brand marketing specialist, all about how she maintains healthy hair as a Hijab wearer.
Q: Why is healthy or strong hair important as a Hijab wearer?
When you wear the hijab, it's often really difficult to fully protect your hair from the friction of the scarf material. That friction, and leaving it on for multiple hours in a day, results in breakage, especially at the top and front of your hair. Since our hair isn't seeing lots of sun, we’re often lacking Vitamin D. Our hair needs extra TLC to make up for those things and to maintain healthy, beautiful hair.
Q: How have you experienced hair damage? How has K18 helped?
I've experienced hair damage from many things—using heat on my hair, sleeping without a bonnet, wearing my hijab—the list goes on. Thankfully, once I discovered K18, I noticed that my hair damage was being repaired, but more importantly, it was being repaired faster than other products out there. Best part, all K18 products are simple to use, and your hair instantly feels replenished.
Q: What does your K18 routine look like?
I use the PEPTIDE PREP™ detox shampoo, molecular repair hair mask, and finish with the molecular repair hair oil. It has completely transformed my hair health!
Q: What is your favorite thing about your hair?
I love how curly my hair is. It's something I had to grow to love after many years, and the older I get, the more I learn about how to keep it looking its best. I'm really enjoying my hair in its most natural state.
Q: What is the most important tip you want people to know about hijab haircare?
I think my biggest tip is giving your hair that extra TLC. Keep in mind that it shouldn't be a barrier to maintaining your healthy hair. If you have the right products (i.e. my K18 routine), you'll realize it’s actually much easier than you think.
Q: What is the biggest misconception about haircare + hijab wearing?
I think a lot of people say that you lose a lot of hair wearing the hijab, especially around your edges area. If you are staying on top of it and properly caring for more delicate parts of your hair, you'll be able to retain it—and actually grow it out!
We hope you feel as inspired by Esraa's haircare journey + intentional routine as we do.
