Innovation is the “why” behind everything we create. Partnering with Genspace was a natural fit when it came to building out our Future Now Initiative.
What is Genspace?
Genspace is a safe place for people of all backgrounds to build community and have meaningful hands-on experiences with life sciences. The lab is demystifying the scientific process and inspiring the next generation of life sciences leaders.
We chatted with Vanessa Fleury Champagne, Development and Communications Manager at Genspace, to learn more about the work pioneered there.
“Genspace’s mission has always centered on democratizing science, it is the most rewarding to see learners come through our doors intimidated by science and see their journey at Genspace as they begin to find their voice, gain the confidence to know that they are able to do hard things, and know that science is for everyone.”
How K18 supports Genspace
Our partnership with Genspace will directly support the NYC Title 1 School youth interns connected to the lab for research on topics that matter to them and to their communities. These programs are a chance to learn scientific techniques, for the kids to find their individual voices, and develop public speaking skills. Our partnership, according to Champagne, will “ensure the lab supplies are stocked, equipment is serviced and the lab space is adequate to provide them this one-of-a-kind hands-on life sciences education experience.”
How to help
There are plenty of ways to support Genspace’s work. Shop the Genspace Marketplace for experiences that benefit the organization’s mission. Become a Friend of Genspace through a one-time or recurring donation. Or read more about how you can get involved by volunteering—as a mentor, assisting the internship program, or support through a variety of other outlets.
