Hair styling isn’t something that is taught to many fathers prior to parenthood, so this task often tends to fall to the women of the family.
Even if dads want to take advantage of this special bonding time with their kids, they may feel uncertain of techniques—especially in foster, transracial adoptive, and biracial families where hair texture may differ between parents and children.
Stylez 4 Kidz is an organization that provides hands-on education for transracial adoptive families to ensure parents have the proper education to care for their children's hair. Recently, they hosted a workshop to teach dads how to style and take care of their daughters' natural hair.
Stylists walked the dads through techniques on mannequins, letting them practice before trying them out on their children.
The dads were given the opportunity to ask questions, get education about the best styling products for their child’s hair needs, and take-home references to replicate the styles again in their daily lives.
The day was filled with bonding, learning, and practicing techniques, and creating beautiful memories for the fathers and their kids—which we love to see!
“This was such a fun and educational experience for dads and their daughters. Stylez 4 Kidz provided a wonderful opportunity for us dads to bond with our daughters while learning valuable hair care techniques, says Sir Royce Briales, one father who attended the workshop. “The hands-on activities were engaging and interactive, making it easy for everyone to participate and learn. I will someday master the twist!!!”
